Sandy Township police say they responded to a residence on Haines Drive for a report that Matthew Sheldon Spratt, 35, was yelling and screaming with a knife in his hand on Sept. 16. The caller stated that Spratt had stabbed himself and was now naked.

According to the affidavit, police arrived at the scene and were able to take Spratt into custody without an issue. They saw a laceration on his arm, which EMS examined before he was put into the patrol car.

The victim told officers that after she got one of her children on the school bus that morning, Spratt started yelling at her for various reasons.

This escalated into Spratt stealing her medical marijuana card and throwing her purse across the room, she told officers.

Next, he shoved her before going into the living room where he stabbed himself and a chair. He then reportedly began throwing things around the room.

When he threw his walking cane, he struck an infant child in the head, causing bruising and a laceration about his eye, according to the complaint.

Once in custody, Spratt told investigators that he had ingested methamphetamine earlier that morning while he was supervising multiple children, police said.

Spratt is charged with felony endangering the welfare of children, and misdemeanor simple assault and recklessly endangering another person in addition to two summary counts of harassment.

Spratt waived his right to a preliminary hearing Friday during centralized court at District Judge Pat Ford’s office. His bail was lowered from $10,000 to $10,000, unsecured and he was released according to online court documents.
