Woman Caught Breaking into Garage in Venango County

JACKSON TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Criminal charges have been filed against a woman who was allegedly caught breaking into a garage in Jackson Township on Sunday.

Court documents indicate the Franklin-based State Police filed criminal charges against 31-year-old Kara Shea Reed, of Ambridge, Pa.

According to a criminal complaint, around 2:45 a.m. on February 28, Franklin-based State Police were dispatched to the Cooperstown Post Office to meet Kara Reed regarding an issue.

The complaint states Reed then called back stating she was stuck in a ditch in front of a residence on Lumberton Road in Jackson Township, Venango County.

Police arrived at the scene and found a dark-colored Chrysler with a California registration in a ditch still running, partially obstructing traffic. Police then saw a woman walking out of the garage of the residence. The woman then identified herself as Kara Reed.

According to the complaint, Reed said that she had been driving, and she stopped at the residence, which she said belonged to a family member, to “reminisce,” when she got stuck in the ditch. She also told police the home was vacant, and she was the only one on the property and had the keys in her possession.

Police then investigated and were able to make contact with the homeowner.

The homeowner did not know Reed and found the garage door open and the interior lights on, the complaint notes.

The keys found in Reed’s possession were also discovered to belong to the homeowner/victim, and a garage door opener was found inside the garage that had been taken from the victim’s truck, according to the complaint.

During the interactions with Reed, police observed that her eyelids were heavy and she appeared lethargic. She was then asked to perform several standardized field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment, according to the complaint.

Reed was subsequently taken into custody.

Police found a vape pen of THC in Reed’s possession, the complaint states.

She was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Patrick E. Lowrey at 9:15 a.m. on February 28, on the following charges:

– Burglary – Not Adapted for Overnight Accommodation, Person Present, Felony 1
– Criminal Trespass-Enter Structure, Felony 3
– Theft from a Motor Vehicle, Misdemeanor 3
– DUI: Controlled Substance – Impaired Ability – 1st Offense, Misdemeanor
– Use/Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor
– Careless Driving, Summary

Unable to post $5,000.00 monetary bail, she was lodged in the Venango County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on March 10 in Venango County Central Court.
