Jefferson County Man Accused of Grabbing Woman By Throat, Punching Juvenile

PUNXSUTAWNEY BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – Charges have been filed against a Punxsutawney man who allegedly grabbed a woman by the throat and punched a juvenile several times during a domestic dispute.

Court documents indicate the Punxsutawney Borough Police Department filed criminal charges against 41-year-old Bryan P. Adams.

According to a criminal complaint, around 7:28 p.m. on March 16, Punxsutawney Borough Police were dispatched to a residence on West Mahoning Street for a report of a domestic dispute in progress.

At the scene, police spoke to a known female victim who reported she had been in an argument with Bryan Adams during which time he told her that he was going to “put her (expletive) head through the wall.”

The victim told police Adams then grabbed her by the throat and pushed her up against a door. She reported he squeezed her throat, making it hard to breathe, and noted that her juvenile child saw the incident and then went after Adams and pushed him to the floor, the complaint indicates.

Police spoke to the juvenile who stated that he did strike Adams a few times to get him away from him and his mother. The juvenile said that Adams also punched him twice in the head and then hit him on the side of the head with a laptop computer.

The female victim then fled the scene, went to the neighbor’s house, and had them call 9-1-1 for help.

Police also spoke to Adams about the incident.

The complaint states the officers walked into the living room of the residence and immediately noticed the odor of marijuana and observed a tray containing six glass smoking pipes with marijuana residue, a grinder with marijuana residue, and a scraper used to scrape marijuana residue out of the pipes on the coffee table.

When asked about the incident, Adams told police the female victim had punched him in the throat, and the juvenile had then jumped on him and “beat on him,” according to the complaint.

When asked about the pipes and other paraphernalia, Adams told police it belonged to the juvenile, the complaint notes.

Police then spoke to the female victim again.

When questioned about the paraphernalia, the female victim said they belong to Adams and reported being too afraid to say anything in fear that Adams will hurt her and the juvenile, the complaint states.

Adams was then taken into custody.

He was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock at 10:05 a.m. on March 17, on the following charges:

– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2 (three counts)
– Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor (eight counts)
– Possession of Marijuana, Misdemeanor

Unable to post $10,000.00 monetary bail, he was lodged in the Jefferson County Jail.

He was released on March 18, on a surety bond posted by a professional bondsman.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on April 7, with Judge Mizerock presiding.
