Venango County Man Facing Charges for Making Threats With Illegal Handgun

FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) – Criminal charges have been filed against a Franklin man who is accused of threatening a victim with an unlicensed handgun on Saturday.

Court documents indicate the Franklin Police Department filed criminal charges against 20-year-old Nydir Edward Stewart.

According to a criminal complaint, around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, a verbal argument allegedly occurred between Nydir Edward Stewart at a known victim at a residence on Arbor Circle in Franklin, Venango County.

The victim was then forced out of the residence onto the outside sidewalk. Stewart then allegedly exited the apartment, presented a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun that he pulled from his waistband, and began making threatening statements and gestures toward the victim with the gun, the complaint states.

Stewart was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Andrew F. Fish at 4:10 p.m. on March 20, on the following charges:

– Firearms Not To Be Carried Without License, Felony 3
– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 3

He remains free on $15,000.00 unsecured bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on March 31 in Venango County Central Court with Judge Fish presiding.
