James D. Burkett

James D. Burkett, 87, of Burkett Hollow, Punxsutawney, passed away at home on Monday, April 26, 2021.

He was born at the family homestead in Burkett Hollow on February 16, 1934, a son of the late Fred Ira Burkett and Verda Ruth (Wachob) Burkett.

Mr. Burkett served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

He was first married to Barbara Ishman. He later married Colleen V. Clark and together they enjoyed forty-three years.

James worked as a foreman for Penn Line Services of Scottdale and was a fifty-year member of the Local 66 Operating Engineers.

He was a member of the NRA and the Loyal Order of Moose.

James was a big John Deere enthusiast. He enjoyed farming, hunting and annual fishing trips to Canada with family and friends.

In addition to his wife Colleen, he is survived by four children, Dennis (Amy) Burkett of Punxsutawney, Ralph (Margie) Burkett of Punxsutawney, Marie (Gene) Graham of Garfield, Georgia, Diane (Bart) Konrad of Woolwich Township, New Jersey; stepdaughter, Joleen (Anthony) Roberson of Punxsutawney; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Delmas (Patty) Burkett of Punxsutawney, Vickie Jefferies of Punxsutawney, Judy (Roger) Burns of Quakertown, and Patty Lundy of Reynoldsville.

Preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Harry Burkett and Boyd Burkett, two sisters, Frances McManigle and Margaret Shaffer, an infant grandson, Justin Burkett.

There will be no visitation or viewing. Arrangements entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
