Samuel L. Whitfield

Samuel L. Whitfield, 70, of Rossiter, died the evening of Monday, August 1, 2022, at his home following an illness.

Born in Punxsutawney on June 28, 1952, he was the son of the late Alvin and Myra Peterman Whitfield.

He attended Punxsutawney Area Schools and was of Protestant faith.

On June 10, 1972 in Marchand he married the former Rose McCullough. She survives.

He retired from PennDOT and was a member of the Rossiter Sportsman’s Club and a former member of the Cherry Tree Cycle Club.

His pastimes included collecting firearms, hunting, bench rest shooting, camping, trike riding and time spent with family.

In addition to his wife, Rose he is survived by his daughter, Tanya Williams; his brothers, Robert, Melvin and Joseph Whitfield; his sisters, Beverly Malizia, Leona Butler, Jean Williams, Martha Bassett and Mary Catarouche; and his granddaughter, Cheyenne Whitfield.

Those preceding him in death in addition to his parents are his son, John E. Whitfield; and his brothers, William and John Whitfield.

A memorial service will be held at Flashover Club (the former Elks Lodge), (first floor) 205 N Findley St., Punxsutawney onSaturday, August 6, 2022 at 11AM.

Interment will be in Anita Cemetery, Jefferson County.

Memorial donation may be made to Muscular Dystrophy Association and Lung Cancer Association.
