Althea Bell (Snyder) Becker

Althea Bell (Snyder) Becker, 95, of Brookville, PA, passed away during the early morning hours of Thursday, December 22, 2022, while a resident of Brookside Senior Living.

She was born on October 31, 1927, to the late Newell Jennings Snyder and Mary Bell (Smith) Snyder Miller in Brookville.

Althea began her working life at sixteen with a position in the Brookville Glove Factory, throughout her life she also held positions at Kline’s Cleaners of Brookville, the Brookville Sylvania Plant, making radio tubes at Urskin’s in Reynoldsville, PA, and finally retiring from the Marienville Glass Plant.

Althea married William “Bill” Becker on February 28, 1947, in Oakland, MD, they shared sixty-seven years of marriage, until Bill’s passing on May 21, 2014.

Althea was a member of the Roseville Church of Christ. Althea was an extremely creative person especially when it came to fine detailed handwork.

Making both hand-sewn and porcelain dolls, working on cross-stitch or crochet projects, and both building and decorating dollhouses.

These were just a few of her talents.

Althea could sew about anything.

Through the years she has made everything from intricate doll clothes and actual baby clothes to household décor.

She was the go-to person in the family for recital outfits, costumes, uniforms, and even prom and bridal gowns.

She was a great cook and baker. She was responsible for baking and decorating many of the birthday and wedding cakes for her family and friends through the years.

Althea enjoyed any chance that she got to travel, look at maps, listen to her music, or read a good book.

She had a huge heart and compassion for animals.

Her love of animals being just one of the many values she took great care to pass down through the family.

Althea was a natural problem solver and created ingenious and unique solutions to ordinary concerns.

She was always willing to teach and share her skills and talents while remaining humble.

Althea was extremely dedicated to her family.

She was most proud of them and loved unconditionally.

They could always rely on her presence and her wisdom.

Her family could also count on the Sunday dinners that she poured her heart into for almost 60 years.

Althea made sure that her family always had a place to call home.

Althea had a good sense of humor and liked to laugh.

She had a beautiful smile that could light up a room.

She was intelligent, independent, strong, and very loving.

She has been an inspiration and a strong role model to many.

She is a perfect example of a life well lived.

Althea will always be cherished in the hearts and memories of her family and all those that were blessed to have known her.

Althea is survived by two children; Barry E. (Cynthia) Becker; Brenda S. Alexander; eight grandchildren; Brent E. Becker; Michelle L. Becker; Melissa J. Becker; Haylee S. (Michael) Black; Erika D. (Brian) Kammerdeiner; Tina C. (Joshua) Walton; Garry W. Becker Jr.; Shawn A. Becker; fourteen great grandchildren; Cassidy (Hank Rape) Steele; Logan Steele; Lexie Bowman; Parker Black; Ella Black; Carsyn Black; Laela Kammerdeiner; Maya Kammerdeiner; Liam Walton; Sophia Walton; Nolan Walton; Jonathan Becker; Caleb Becker; William Becker; and numerous nieces and nephews, many of which lovingly called her “Aunt Artie”.

In addition to her parents and husband, Althea was preceded in passing by her stepfather; Dallas L. Miller; two sons; Randon “Randy” L. Becker; Garry W. Becker Sr.; one daughter in law; Mary “Beth” Becker; one son in law; Michael C. Alexander; and three sisters; Daisy “Maude” Becker; Betty P. Sprankle; and Bertha A. Becker.

The family would like to extend their warmest thanks to her loving caretakers at Brookside Senior Living.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, from 3pm to 7pm at the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Brookville, PA 15825.

A second visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, also at the funeral home from 10am to 11am.

A funeral service will take place immediately following the second visitation, beginning at 11am and officiated by Minister John Kerr.

Interment will take place at Roseville Bethel Cemetery, Roseville, Jefferson Co., PA.
