Richard Alan Carnes

Richard Alan Carnes, 81, of Punxsutawney passed away March 27, 2023, at Embassy of Hillsdale.

He was born in Latrobe on June 21, 1941, the son of the late John and Willa June (Iscrupe) Carnes.

On January 24, 1964, he married Nellie (Rupert) Carnes, who survives.

Alan worked as a Pennsylvania State Trooper for the Punxsutawney Barricks for 28 years.

As a side job, he started a two-way radio business with his friend Marty Palmer.

With his knowledge and expertise with radios, he was instrumental in helping set up the Jefferson County 911 Center.

Alan was a 31st Degree Mason and a member of the Coudersport Consistory.

In addition to many volunteer opportunities with the John W. Jenks Masonic Lodge, Alan served as a Past Master, secretary for five years, and was a District Deputy Grand Master for the 31st District for a term of five years.

He was also an instructor at the Masonic School of Instruction in Indiana, PA.

He enjoyed tuning pianos, restoring player pianos, and Merry Go Round band organs with his wife.

In keeping with his passion for pianos he enjoyed helping at the DeBence Antique Music Museum in Franklin.

Alan will be remembered for his jokester personality, his ability to make people laugh and his big, loving heart.

Alan is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Nellie Carnes of Punxsutawney; three daughters: Kathleen Ann Killian and her companion Don Cameron of Punxsutawney, Anne Fream and her husband Robert of Germantown, MD; and Laura E. Gober and her husband Greg of Lake Village, AR; and a brother, Curtis Carnes and his wife Fran of Charlotte, North Carolina; nine grandchildren: Courtney Killian and her husband William Lawrimore, Michael Killian, Ryan Gober and his wife Eva, Adam Gober and his wife Ashley, Emma Gober. Mitchell Fream, Nathan Fream, Madeline Fream and Greta Fream; and a great granddaughter, Mia Gober.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no services.

Entombment will be in Ridgmont Cemetery.
