Thomas Mark Elbel Sr.

Thomas Mark Elbel Sr., 66, of Punxsutawney, passed away Monday, May 29, 2023.

He was born in Brookville on August 26, 1956, the son of the late Glenn and Dorothy (Weaver) Elbel.

He was a 1974 graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School.

He worked for Seasonall, was the owner of Tom Elbel’s Greenhouse and Produce Farm and worked as a corrections officer at the Indiana County Jail.

He then worked at the Jefferson County Jail as a corrections officer and deputy warden eventually retiring as the warden.

Tom was previously active as a member of the Punxsutawney Lions Club once serving as president.

He was active in Cub Scouts and was Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop #245 for many years, which he loved.

His sons loved it too.

He encouraged all the boys in his troop, including his sons, to become Eagle Scouts.

He enjoyed camping, spending time at his camp, and being with his family and grandchildren.

On May 18, 1984 he married Constance (Connie) Burkholtz, who survives.

They enjoyed 39 years together.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons; Justin and wife Kira of Punxsutawney, Thomas Mark Jr. and wife Emily of Sykesville, and Joey and wife Marcie of Punxsutawney, seven grandchildren; Alyssa, Alexandrew, Brayden, Serena, Braxton, Lydia, and Lilah, and his beloved dogs Snuggles and Buster.

He is also survived by a sister, Joyce Jasso of Punxsutawney, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters Diane and Marjorie.

Friends will be received on Thursday from 3-7 PM at the McCabe Funeral Home Inc., 114 Maple Avenue, Punxsutawney, PA 15767, and also on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM at the funeral home.

Interment will take place at Valier Cemetery.
