John Edward “Moose” Verne

John Edward “Moose” Verne age 92 a lifelong Brockway resident died on Wednesday May 31, 2023 at the DuBois Village.

Born on January 9, 1931 in Brockway he was the son of the late John T. and Lucia “Lucy” Scarnati Verne.

He was married to Mary Ellen “Punky” Kroh on July 1, 1961 and she survives.

Retired, Moose had been employed in the Sales Department and Office at Brockway Pressed Metals for over 45 years.

He was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran serving in the 515 Pipeline Battalion at Ft. Belvoir, VA.

Moose was a member of Parson Marnati Post #95 of the American Legion and the Brockway Sportsmen’s Club.

Moose always enjoyed the company of his friends whether it was playing cards at the club or having coffee most mornings at Morelli’s restaurant.

He was an avid car enthusiast, enjoyed watching football and especially being out and about in the Brockway community.

In addition to his wife he is also survived by a daughter Gina (Christopher) Strishock of Sandy Hook, VA; a son Lore (Virginia) Verne of Middletown, PA; 3 grandchildren Ethan Verne, Kathleen Troxell and Austin Troxell.

He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by a brother Thomas M. Verne.

Visitation will be on Friday June 2 from 5 PM to 7 PM at the Shugarts Funeral Home Inc. in Brockway.

A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 7:00 PM with Pastor Dave Nagele officiating.

Burial will be in St. Tobias Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded by Parson-Marnati Post #95 of the American Legion.
