Titusville Man Dead, Others Hospitalized After Three-Vehicle Wreck in Erie County

ERIE COUNTY, Pa. (EYT) – A local man was killed and multiple others were hospitalized following a three-vehicle collision in Erie County on Sunday afternoon.

According to Erie-based State Police, troopers were dispatched to the area of State Route 97 and Hare Road in LeBoeuf Township, Erie County, for a three-vehicle crash around 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 17.

Police say an investigation determined that a white Dodge Durango operated by 26-year-old Michael Dingle of Union City, was traveling south on Route 97 and lost control on the wet roadway.

Dingle’s vehicle then struck a white Chevrolet Trax driven by 37-year-old Laarne Rekiel, of Oil City, causing it to exit the roadway, hit an embankment, and overturn.

Dingle’s vehicle continued traveling and collided with a black Jeep Patriot operated by 24-year-old Ethan Johnson, of Titusville, which was traveling north.

Johnson was pronounced dead by Erie County Deputy Coroner John Maloney.

Johnson’s passenger, 29-year-old Christy McCann, of Titusville, suffered injuries of unknown severity and was transported to UPMC Hamot via EmergyCare.

Rekiel and her passengers—38-year-old Cherina Ancheta, of Oil City, and a 15-year-old female—suffered suspected minor injuries and were transported to UPMC Hamot.

Dingle suffered unknown injuries and was transported to UPMC Hamot via Stancliff Hose Company.

This investigation is ongoing.
