Massive Fire Damages Apartment Building in Jefferson County

PERRY TWP, Pa. (EYT) – A fire of undetermined origin ravaged an apartment building in Perry Township, Jefferson County, causing approximately $450,000 in damage.

The incident occurred on February 9, 2024, at 3:50 PM on Route 536. The Pennsylvania State Police in Punxsutawney are investigating the incident.

The apartment building, which housed four apartments, was occupied during the fire. The occupants, three men and two women from Punxsutawney, PA, and one man from Wayne, NJ, escaped without injuries.

The Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department initially responded to the fire and later requested assistance from a Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal to help determine the origin and cause of the fire.

Trooper Eliason of the Punxsutawney Crime Unit is leading the investigation into the incident. The exact circumstances surrounding the fire, including its origin and cause, remain undetermined at this stage of the inquiry.

No injuries were reported despite the large scale of the fire and the significant damage incurred.
