Driver Killed, Passenger Seriously Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash on Route 422

ARMSTRONG TWP., Pa. (EYT) – A driver was killed and his passenger was seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision on Route Route 422 that occurred late Wednesday night.

According to State Police in Indiana, the accident happened around 11:46 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, on Route 422 Highway East, just east of Poulos Road, in Armstrong Township, Indiana County, involving a 17-year-old Shelocta female and 56-year-old John C. Kieger, of Shaker Heights, Ohio.

Police as a 2015 Jeep Wrangler, operated by the 17-year-old female, was traveling westbound on Route 422 West, and Kieger was traveling eastbound on Route 422 Highway East in a 2009 Toyota Matrix.

According to police, at one point, the teen’s Jeep traveled over the double yellow lines and into the eastbound lanes and struck Kieger’s Toyota at its 10 o’clock position. The Toyota then traveled off the roadway into a field.

Kieger was pronounced deceased on the scene.

His passenger–21-year-old Carissa Kieger, of Shaker Heights, Ohio–suffered suspected serious injuries.

Life Flight transported her to Allegheny General Hospital.

Citizens’ Ambulance Service transported the 17-year-old driver to Indiana Regional Medical Center for possible injuries.

All three occupants were using seat belts.

According to police, the investigation is ongoing.
