KUTZTOWN, Pa. — The Golden Eagle women’s golf team saved their best round of the weekend for last, as Clarion took eighth place at the 2024 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship at Berkleigh Golf Club.

Clarion shot a team score of 351 on Sunday, giving them a three-day score of 1,067 (356+360+351).

Three Golden Eagle golfers shot in the 80s on Sunday, and the one scorer that didn’t–McKayla Kerle–was not far behind that pace, shooting a score of 90. Kerle was the low scorer for the entire weekend of action, shooting a three-round score of 264 (85+89+90) to tie for 30th in the field. She was even on both the front and back nines, shooting 45 on each.

The low scorer of the day for Clarion was Hailee Liptak, who carded a round of 86. She made par or better on four of the last seven holes. Hannah Smith posted a score of 87 on Sunday to tie for 32nd in the field, finishing just one stroke behind Kerle for the weekend. She added one birdie, making a four on the par-five 13th hole.

Sylvia Stibley–the three-time PSAC women’s golf Champion Scholar – wrapped her collegiate career by shooting an 88 on Sunday, marking a five-stroke improvement on her Saturday score.

This year’s championship also marked the final match in the coaching career of Clarion’s Gregg Fritz, who finished his seventh season as the Golden Eagles’ head coach.

Fritz walked the 18th hole with each of his competitors at Sunday’s championship.
