Eugene “Gene” Harris Ellis

Eugene “Gene” Harris Ellis, 94, of Sigel, PA, passed away during the early morning hours of Monday, May 6, 2024, surrounded by family at his home.

He was born on June 23, 1929, to the late Harris R. and Ellen Matilda (Harriger) Ellis in Hallton, PA.

Gene married Mary Frances Gregg on October 25, 1958, in Brookville, PA; Mary preceded Gene in passing on July 21, 2017.

Gene proudly served his country with the US Marine Corps from October 1948 to August of 1952 before returning home.

In addition to being a farmer all his life, Gene worked for PENNDOT from 1964 to 1972.

Following PENNDOT, he held multiple positions for Millstone Township including equipment operator, roadmaster, and supervisor.

He was also a member of Sigel Volunteer Fire Department Ward 2, as well as the Elk Country Farmer’s Association, the National Rifle Association, and the Marine Corps Association.

Gene was a very simple man with a deep passion for the place he called home, the Pennsylvania wilds.

His love extended past enjoyment into responsibility when he acted as a forest fire warden for thirty-five years.

Gene was as much a part of the area he called home as it was a part of him.

He will be dearly missed by his loving family and community.

Gene is survived by three children: Danny E. Ellis, Sharon (Jeff) Thompson, Kathleen Lee; two grandchildren: Jennifer (TJ) Cook, Andrew (Laura) Lee; two great grandchildren: Christian Cook and Tucker Lee; two siblings: Guy (Harriet) Ellis and Dale (Beverly) Ellis; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and beloved wife, Gene was preceded in passing by one son in law: Michael R. Lee; and one sister: E. Lucille Johnson.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, from 10am to 12pm at the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Brookville, PA 15825.

A funeral service will take place immediately following the viewing, beginning at 12:00pm.

Military Honors will be rendered by the Brookville Area Honor Guard.
