Edwin Addison London

Edwin Addison London, 89, of Big Run, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at Penn Highlands DuBois.

He was born in Punxsutawney on November 10, 1933, a son of the late Addison Samuel London and Sarah Kathryn (Knarr) London.

He was a member of the Paradise Community United Church of Christ since 1948.

His love of God, Jesus, family and friends was evident.

Ed graduated with the last class of Big Run High School in 1951.

Mr. London faithfully served his country in the United States Army.

On June 15, 1963, he married the love of his life, Joyce Virginia Shaffer.

She survives and resides in Big Run.

His first employment was with Big Run Supply Company, he later worked for Busy Bee in Sykesville and finished out his career at CRW Home Center in Punxsutawney.

Ed was a former director of Allegheny Mountain Chapter of Trout Unlimited, he was also awarded the “Golden Reel” award for his service to the environment.

He was the biggest fan of his children and grandchildren’s sports activities.

He coached Sykesville Little League and Senior League for many years.

Ed was a lifetime Pittsburgh Pirates fan.

Hunting, fly fishing, camping, traveling, photography, reading about his passions and hobbies were a few of his favorite pastimes.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, David (Mary Kay) London of Big Run, Nancy (Brad) Bittner of DuBois and Douglas London of Big Run; six grandchildren, Sarah London, Kayla, Ty and Alyssa Bittner, Madilyn Fye and Gracyn London; three brothers, Clifford “Jay” (and the late Lillian) London of DuBois, Harold (Nancy) London of Punxsutawney and Richard London of State College; one sister, Norma (Ralph) Dermota of York.

Friends will be received from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Big Run, and from 10-11 a.m. Monday at Paradise United Church of Christ.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, officiated by Pastors Donna Jarrell and Barry Fillman.

Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery at Paradise Church.

Memorial donations may be made in Edwin’s memory to the Paradise United Church of Christ.
