Nancy J. Bishop

Nancy J. Bishop, 89, of Punxsutawney, died Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at the Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

She was born August 8, 1934, in Glen Campbell, a daughter of the late Margaret (Singel) and Peter Peles.

Nancy was first married to Robert Zimmerman, who preceded her in death on September 2, 1993.

She then married Donald Bishop, who preceded her in death on December 1, 2003.

Nancy was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church of Punxsutawney.

She worked as an Ophthalmic Assistant for Dr. Anthony DeFazio, Keystone Eye Surgeons, and lastly with Dr. Bonnie Beck.

Nancy was a volunteer with Girl Scouts for over thirty-one years and a former member of the Elks Lodge of Punxsutawney.

She enjoyed sewing, crafts, gardening, Beyer Avenue Backyard Bingo, embroidery, making blankets, and puzzles.

She is survived by four children, daughter Linda Smith and husband Ron of Punxsutawney, son Dave Zimmerman and wife Cindy of DuBois, daughter Annette Roy and husband Bob of Punxsutawney, and daughter Brenda Weber and husband Lane of Reynoldsville; nine grandchildren, Ronald Smith, Jr., Donald Smith, Kimberly Shaffer, Karin Dodd, Erin Flanders, Austin Roy, Erica States, Quinton Weber, and Paige Szewczyk; sixteen great-grandchildren; five siblings, sisters Margaret Lyles, Kathleen Breeze, Barbara Montgomery, and Miriam Oakes, and brother Peter Peles.

In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by five siblings, Vasil, Robert, James, David Peles, and Evelyn Scott.

Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 10, 2024, and from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, May 11, 2024, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A prayer service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 11, 2024, at the funeral home with Father Vasyl Kadar officiating.

Interment will be in Pine Cemetery, Punxsutawney.

Memorial contributions may be made, in memory of Mrs. Bishop, to the Punxsutawney Area Hospital, 81 Hillcrest Drive, Punxsutawney, PA 15767, or to AM/PM Personal Care Home, 555 Adrian Road, DeLancey, PA 15733.
