Sometimes, with the heat and humidity of summer, you just need to find a way to cool off.

Here is a list of 10 ways to beat the heat and cool off in Pennsylvania’s Great Outdoors region.

  1. Foxburg Tours – Enjoy the relaxing, easy pace of pontoon boat tours where you can learn about Foxburg’s history and watch eagles soaring, turtles basking, and fish swimming. Their pontoon boat can hold up to 13 people with a Bimini cover that keeps passengers sheltered from both sun and rain.
  2. Cook Forest Fun Park – The twists and turns of the spectacular Sky-Rapids waterslide and bumper boats are two of the most fun ways in PA Great Outdoors region to cool off.
  3. Clarion River – Tubing, swimming, canoeing, and kayaking are popular ways to enjoy this federally designated Wild & Scenic Recreation River. There are liveries in Ridgway and Cook Forest to help you plan your day on the water. Piney Reservoir near Clarion offers unlimited horsepower boating on 14 miles of deep water.
  4. Allegheny River – The deep waters of Pool #9 at East Brady are popular for power boats and jet skis. Near Tionesta, canoeing and kayaking are the favorite ways to enjoy this federally designated Wild & Scenic River.
  5. Clear Creek State Park – The clear cold waters at the swimming beach are a very refreshing and quick way to beat the summer heat.
  6. Boat Rentals – Enjoy day on the water with boat rentals from Tionesta Marina.
  7. Sinnemahoning State Park – Wildlife watching pontoon boat tours of the George B. Stevenson reservoir are offered on most Sundays from Memorial Day to Labor Day. In addition, specialty bird watching tours that feature a hot brunch served onboard are scheduled several times each summer.
  8. Public Pools – Take a refreshing swim in the pools in Marienville, Brockway, and Reynoldsville.
  9. Sizerville State Park – Take a dip in their 105-foot-long pool with an adjacent wading pool. There is a lift in the pool for people with disabilities.
