Punxsutawney Walmart Shooting Determined to Be Family Dispute Between Brothers, Police Say

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. — State Police in Punxsutawney have released new details in the shooting at Walmart in Jefferson County on Monday afternoon.

According to a Tuesday morning statement, this incident was determined to be an isolated family dispute between two brothers.

Police say the dispute led to a physical altercation, ending with a fatal gunshot wound to the chest of the victim, who remains unidentified at this time.

“This incident remains open, pending further investigation and consultation with the Jefferson County District Attorney,” according to a statement issued by PSP on Tuesday morning.

Troopers were dispatched to the Walmart Super Center in Young Township, Jefferson County, around 12:15 p.m. on Monday, March 11.

Troop C Crime Unit and Members of the State Police quickly launched an investigation and said there were no threats to the general public.

The suspect is in custody.
