Police: Venango County Man Jailed for Firing Shots During Road Rage Incident

FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — A Venango County man was arrested on Monday afternoon after he allegedly fired shots during a road rage incident in Franklin.

According to court documents, the Sugarcreek Borough Police Department arrested 55-year-old John L. Wagner, of Oil City, on Monday, April 1.

Police say officers responded to a call regarding a road rage incident with shots fired along U.S. Route 322 in Sugarcreek Borough, Venango County, around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, April 1.

Officers were able to locate both vehicles and spoke with the drivers. It was determined that the driver of the green SUV, later identified as John L. Wagner, had fired “one to two” rounds from his car, police said.

Wagner was taken into custody and arraigned on the following charges in front of District Judge Patrick E. Lowrey:

  • Aggravated Assault – Attempts to cause SBI or causes injury with extreme indifference, Felony 1
  • Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
  • Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Misdemeanor 2

He was deemed a “threat to society,” and therefore, bail was denied.

A preliminary hearing is slated for Wednesday, April 10, in Venango County Central Court.
