Dr. Peter J. Thompson

Dr. Peter J. Thompson, 79, of Franklin passed away on April 14, 2024 in his home with his family at his side.

Born in Morristown, NJ on September 9, 1944, he was the son of the late William and Dorthea (Dreher) Thompson.

On June 22, 1996, he married the former Kathy L. Domer and she survives.

After graduating high school, Pete attended Gettysburg College where he graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science of Biology.

He then went to New Jersey College of Medicine where he completed his residency and Medical College of Virginia where he received his doctorate.

He was a partner in the Franklin Physician’s office building.

Dr. Pete was a member of the American Medical Association, Pennsylvania Medical Society, Venango Medical Society, the Franklin Club, and Wanango Country Club.

He enjoyed working on clocks and was a member of the Watch and Clock and Collectors Club.

He also enjoyed bowling, gardening, golfing, traveling, and was an avid Steelers and Pirates fan.

Most of all though, he loved his family and spoiling the grandchildren.

Dr. Pete was an active member of the Christ United Methodist Church.

Left to cherish his memory along with his wife are his children, Amy T. Hark and her husband, Judd, of Emmaus, PA, Sara T. Stutzman and her husband, Steve, of Harrisburg, PA, Tonya L. Meals and her fiancée, Chad Myers, of Cooperstown, Michael B. Goughler of Oil City, and Jeffrey A. Goughler of Oil City; his grandchildren, Abigail Hark of Emmaus, PA, Rori Stutzman of Harrisburg, PA, Drew Stutzman of Harrisburg, Jacob Meals of Pittsburgh, Alex Meals of Norfolk, CT, Taylor Meals of Cooperstown, Emily Goughler of Sharon, PA, Eric Goughler of Oil City, Ethan Goughler of Oil City and Emma Goughler of Clarion, PA; and his brothers, Gary Thompson of Albany, NY, Mark Thompson and his wife, Joan, of Morristown, NY, and Rob Thompson and his wife Jan, of Garner, NC.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William P. Thompson.

Family and friends are invited to the Gardinier-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, PA on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 from 1 pm to 3 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm.

Funeral services for Dr. Thompson will be held at the Christ United Methodist Church, 1135 Buffalo Street, Franklin, PA on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at 12:00 pm with Rev. Dr. Darrell Greenawalt, pastor of the church, officiating.

Dr. Pete will be laid to rest at Bethel Cemetery, Franklin, Pennsylvania.
