John W. Bartley, Sr., 98, of Galesburg, IL, formerly of Clarion, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.
He was born on September 30, 1925 in Limestone.
John was the son of the late John W. and Mary Gibson Bartley.
He graduated from Clarion-Limestone High School in 1943.
John then served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946 stationed in the Aleutian Islands.
Mr. Bartley married the former Jane V. Minich on June 5, 1948, who preceded him in death on March 3, 2008.
John worked for the A&P Tea Company for 35 ½ years.
He later owned and operated the Frozen Food Locker in Clarion until his retirement.
Mr. Bartley was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarion.
He enjoyed being with his family, walking, hunting and NASCAR.
John is survived by his son, John W. Bartley, Jr. and his wife, Robyn, of Illinois; his daughter, Marianne Theiss and her husband, Terry, of Strattanville; and 5 grandchildren, Tonya Matthews of Illinois, Joshua Bartley of Virginia, Matthew Bartley of South Carolina, Michelle Lander of Clarion and Courtney Baker of Tennessee.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kelly Theiss; 3 brothers, Al Bartley, Frank Bartley and Dick Bartley; and 3 sisters, Mary Lou Minich, Helen Wolfgang and Ruth Shaffer.
Family and friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 29, 2024 in the funeral home with Rev. Harold Jacobson presiding.
Interment will follow in the Clarion Cemetery.
